Origin of the coffee
You know that Brazil is the world's largest coffee producer. You may have read that the first coffee trees were planted there in the 18th century. So let's add some more information about the place. Initially, coffee was grown in the Santos region, near the city of São Paulo. Today there are plantations in the regions of Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Bahia, Rondônia, Paraná, Cerrado and Alta Mogiana. The Brazilian Cemorrado Chocolate Edition NY2 scr. 17/18 comes from the latter two regions.
The Cerrado is located in the east of the country and is covered with tropical savannas and mountainous areas, but also wetlands and forests. The climate can be described as semi-humid, tropical, with two predominant seasons - dry (April-September) and rainy (October-March). The average annual temperature ranges between 22 and 27 ⁰C. The Cerrado is known as a habitat with a great diversity of plant and animal species, which is why much of it is strictly protected. The coffee is low in acidity, balanced and has a chocolate-caramel colour. The plantations are planted at an altitude of around 850 metres and produce a really large quantity of excellent coffee. It is also worth noting that Cerrado became the first coffee producer to have its coffee certified - using the Designated Origin designation for its exceptional quality varieties.
Alta Mogiana is located near São Paulo, in the northeast of Brazil. It is an area with a stable climate, soil rich in organic matter and altitudes of 800-1000 m above sea level. This coffee can be recognised by its very pleasant sweetness, mild acidity and light notes of biscuits, cocoa and nuts.
Finally, some information about the NY2 designation. This indicates that a 300 gram sample of coffee contains up to 6 beans with visible defects. The very low number of beans with defects guarantees a smooth and consistent taste. And what does scr. 17/18 mean? The abbreviation scr. (screen) describes the size of the bean, an important measure of quality. Large, fully ripe beans ensure excellent flavour. Size 17/18 is one of the best sizes. The best lots from Brazilian plantations are now at your fingertips. Arabicas from the famous Cerrado and Alta Mogiana regions will not disappoint even the most discerning palate. They will delight you with chocolate and cocoa flavours and a caramel finish. The Cemorrado Chocolate Edition NY2 scr. 17/18 makes an excellent espresso and is also wonderful on filter.
